A thumb joint replacement for your patients that demand more.

Traditional trapeziectomy procedures can lead to loss of strength, thumb shortening and often involve a long, difficult recovery. Which has resulted in high dissatisfaction rates for patients undergoing thumb arthritis surgery. That’s all about to change. Introducing the BioPro Modular Thumb Implant, a “burn no bridges” approach, proven to provide a quick recovery, maintain thumb height and strength.

Maintains Thumb Length

Follow up at an average of 6-years shows the BioPro Modular Thumb Implant preserved metacarpal length and cosmetics in all patients.2 This is achieved by leaving the majority of the trapezium intact, only creating a shallow socket for the thumb head. Additionally, by offering multiple head heights (0, +2 and +4), it allows the surgeon to achieve proper joint tension and alignment intraoperatively.

Fast Recovery

The recommended post-op protocol includes casting for 2-4 weeks, followed by 4 weeks of strengthening exercises with full recovery by 12 weeks. While many patients are virtually pain-free in the matter of weeks, clinical experience has shown that some patients may have discomfort for up to a year while the trapezium remodels. After remodeling, this discomfort should resolve.

Improves strength and dexterity

The BioPro Modular Thumb Implant is engineered with a 15 degree ulnar angle and offset head, which mimics the natural alignment of the carpaometacarpal joint. This not only prevents dislocation, but provides a stable construct for metacarpal leverage.

Implant Specifications

  • Modular design allows the head to be sized independently of the stem to match the patient’s anatomy with 48 possible configurations.
    • Four stem sizes for the metacarpal
    • Four head diameters,
    • Three head heights (offsets/neck lengths) for the trapezium.
  • The implant is manufactured from Cobalt Chrome or Titanium. Both safe proven bio-compatible materials.

The patient preferred treatment.

Patients are seeking alternatives to traditional procedures due to the long recovery times and limited revision options available. Our data proves that patients previously treated with an LRTI on their contralateral hand prefer the implant over the LRTI procedure.1 Listen to Ruth share her experience after receiving both an LRTI and a BioPro Modular Thumb Implant.
